ART Sports/movies

Hi,

Thinking about my football options next year. Predominately have Sky for Premiership plus Setanta sports for Scottish Football. It works out quite expensive!

So I was wondering about ART sports which covers all sorts of games on there channels. http://www.first-sat.co.uk/equipment_and_accessories/pay_tv_cards/art_6m.htm £76 for a 6 month contract. Does anyone have any experience of ART? Does it show Scottish football? Are the Movies any good?

To be able to receive this I would just need a new box with cam and LND set for Hotbird. Likely costs for the box?

Thanks in advance
Murray

I had it for six months, the movies are arabic, not the blockbusters you are thinking.

The football was excellent, usually in English, although Art had a tendency also not to bother broadcasting the English, but tons of Premier League matches, they also showed Scottish Football, Bundesliga and French Football too all in English, so it's well recommended for footie.

I'd suggest you get out and watch some actual local football although Cowdenbeath is the coldest place in the world in Saturday afternoons and the least said about Methil the better :D

Box £120, dish pointing at 13E, and Viaccess 2 CAM, not very expensive, always expensive at beginning, but you get to watch millions more matches ;)

Anybody know where you can find TV listings in English for ART Sports?

Not really an ART listings page but LJ's Football Site does list what matches are shown on what channels (including ART Sport channels) up to 21 days or so in advance.

I want to get art too but does anyone know if it is possible to get it by adding an extra LNB to an existing sky mini dish?
Would you still be able to pick it up.

Its just that I dont want the neighbours thinking that i have two dishes to pick up the foreign porn

Haven't got a clue....try emailing ART themselves? It wouldn't surprise me if they negotiate rights on a season-by-season basis.

Not really, the mini-dish isn't big enough.

I'm about to get a triple LNB 80cm system for 13, 19 and 28 degrees East.

I moved from Sky to Art last season and have not regretted it one bit. It was mainly that I objected paying for Setanta to get the Scottish games that bugged me. I bought a Kaon box with Matrix revolutions CAM for £110 new from eBay. My sub card cost me £65 (can now get them for £55) for 6 months. And I bought a 60cm minidish for £25 that I put up myself and aligned in about 25 mins (I'm no expert, I just followed the advice on this site and a couple of others). So all in it cost me £200ish to swap over to Art but I reduced my Sky sub from £41pm to £19.50 and saved the Setanta sub of £13pm so after 6 months I effectively had made a saving that covered all the kit etc. And for each month since, I'm saving £25 = £300 per year!!!

Don't regret it for a minute as I get LOADS of football -Scottish, Premiership and Champions League. I've since helped 4 friends make the move too and they're well chuffed. Commentry and pictures are 99% of the time exactly the same feeds as used by Sky and Setanta.

Only downsides are that sometimes they move the Scottish games around and don't show them live. So that the 2pm game is shown at 6pm (in full) ofr occasionally on the Monday. Though it has to be said that towards the later half of the season this only happend once or twice. Art 2 also has a funny sound break-up thing which is quite annoying. The Arabesque website (http://www.arabesque.de/schedules/artsport.asp) gives listings for all 4 sports channels but generally only for a few days ahead and more than once I've tuned in and the program isn't as scheduled. Also, you're always left sweating to see if they negotiate new contracts to cover the next season :)

If I were you, I'd wait for the first week of the season to start, check that Art is carrying the matches you want and if it is, MAKE THE SWITCH!!!

Pubfootball.co.uk says ART have the contract until 2009, have they just made this up or is it true? Another thing, does the prices of the ART cards go up during the season as I noticed they are quite cheap now. What way did you set up your dish? To the wall, pole, tripod? How easy is it to do?

I've heard that the FA does not disclose the details of the contracts made with foreign tv channels.

If this is the case then who knows how long ART will have the Prem for?

That's for Nilsat, no one really knows for Hotbird, as I said though it is well recommended for footie.

On looking at the website they have listings for Fox sports and NBA TV. Are they included with your subscription or do they cost extra? Is it an offical subscription?

I stuck up another dish on the side wall of my house (the sky dish is on the back wall) and thought you're not supposed to have two, nobody has said anything to me and I've even had the council's planning guy in my house watching a Saturday afternoon match! To set up the dish, I just left the receiver on IRQAA, a FTA channel on the same stream as ART sports and moved the dish around at random while watching the picture on a £10 4-inch B/W portable from the top of the ladder... not the most scientific approach but eventually I got 75% strength and 80% quality.

I've just got the standard ART 6 month pay as you sub card. The card activates itself and starts the 6 month sub when you plug it in. Really easy. I'm lucky as I know buy 10 at a time and get a bulk discount from a guy who sends them from Tunisia. They cost him about £35 and he sells them to me for £55 (he also sells on eBay) with buy 9 get 1 free.

My main concern about the contract is for the SPL matches which nobody can confirm will be on Art next year. Art is carrying trailers for next season's Premiership and Champions league so I don't reckon there'll be any problem there. There also was some talk about Art moving off Hotbird a while ago but I've not heard much about that either.

Am thinking of getting art sports for the new season and cutting sky down to the family pack. I currently have an 80cm 2nd dish and a fta receiver. However my reciever does not have any slots. Can someone please give me a link to a fta receiver on ebay and an art cam and card that i would need. As i am relatively new and dont want to buy the wrong equipment.
    Thank you

As a non-expert, I really like my Kaon box as it is very fast and looks sexy (unlike most boxes). There's one on eBay for £120 here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5784325700

And an official viaccess CAM would cost under £20 second hand but you'd probably be best with a nice CAM such as Matrix reborn for £37 here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5783279851

But there are as many boxes and combinations are there are users on this site!!!

No those two channels are on Nilesat, on Hotbird you get all the channels from the European version, mostly arabic Art channels and Eurosport.

Had an email today from another forum stating that ART will still hold teh SPL contract next season.

I am going to contact a Sat installer during the week if he can do me a deal on new dish and box etc.
