Sci Fi Channel

Lately, the Sci Fi Channel is improving, and has brought us New First run shows. However, the channel can still improve - it still has not been able to screen the True (Recent) Classics of SF - The X Files, Star Trek (any franchise), Babylon 5, Buffy, Angel, Dr Who.

It would also be great if they could acquire rights to shows like Smallville, Tru Calling, The 4400 - even if they are just rerun rights to early episodes!

I would also like to see a rerun of Earth 2, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel,....

The improvment is down to having direct access to the NBC/Universal archieves which is allowing new programming at vastly reduced costs compared to buying from external sources.

Virtually all the show you mention alerady have their PAY tc rights tied up with other broadcasters at prices I expect are well outside what Scifi could or would be willing to pay.

Still gonna watch the rerun of Profiler, missed it first time around:)

I would like them to show some of the sci-fi movies from the fifties i.e. The Trollenberg Terror, The Blob, Them, The Body Snatchers etc. There are some really good old movies out there that never seem to be shown. This is the place for them.

Personally I wish they'd stop showing films and stick to decent SF TV programmes.

The trouble with the Sci Fi Channel and films is that they repeat them to death, then revive them, then repeat them to death again. How many times do you reckon Gingersnaps has been on this year?

Personally, I watch more each week on the SciFi channel than any other channel.

Although I like Sci-Fi I don't watch the channel as the plaster the screen with whats coming up or on later.

I thought they had shown B5?

I would have thought they could pick up some never/little shown older shows fairly cheaply: "The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne" and "Nowhere Man" spring to mind.

Perhaps they could also get some never-released pilots like "Global Frequency" and the "Time Tunnel" and "Lost in Space" remakes.

I wish that Sci Fi here would be like the one in the states, it should get stargete and other good ones, but I know that this is not going to happen, as I see the channel a low run down channel now. I wish NBC/Universal would do something or sell it to another broadcaster like bskyb or 4ventures or disney!

    Actually...

Twice in Feb and March, six times in July.

They have also shown the prequel and sequel around the same number of times :)

    Gotta love DigiGuide :D

Don't forget that as well as the good stuff, they get various shoddy reality shows and "Crossing Over With Jon Edwards"...

Yeah someone else who just couldn't stand it anymore. That and their habit of starting a show in one timeslot and then pulling it totally switched our family off viewing. Do they still miss out episodes and then pretend that nothing happened?

Don't forget, this is still the only place in the UK to watch Firefly (If you haven't already got the DVD boxset :D )

    I loves it me!

SciFi channel definitely showed B5 four or five times at least before Bravo.

Bravo had been showing it for years until recently.

For anyone who's interested, the 'tv movies' are showing again on Scf-Fi, starting this Saturday at midday with 'The Legend of the Rangers.'

Then from the 3rd of September, 8pm they're showing them all starting from 'The Gathering' - these are also repeated the following day at midday.

Sure, it would be nice if the SciFi channel had more "flagship" scifi tv programs ...

But, occasionally, they show a series that (afaik) hasn't been shown elsewhere ... the Pretender (although I think that might've been elsewhere at some point), the Sentinel, the Invisible Man, Freakylinks, Century City, -- what was the one about the newspaper that reported on strange happenings? --

Those are just a few of the "recent" series myself and my family have enjoyed. (That's just my opinion, I'm sure many of you will have criticisms of my choices, but that's life).

I do agree that they then show this stuff over and over and over again; give it a brief rest and then .. over and over and over again. (Just like the cartoon channels do).

So, I'd still like to give them my support for what they do ... but just wish they could mix it up a bit more.

Personally, I'd like it if they bought some older stuff (here, I'm under the delusion that older stuff is cheaper -- is that necessarily the case?) that perhaps has only had one showing, or even no showings, over here in the UK?

I'd love to see the series of Twilight Zone that, at one point, had JMS as producer. Some of this was shown on ITV in a dead, irregular late night slot; it would be great to see this on a regular slot on SciFi.

How about AlienNation? How about Jeremiah (the second season not shown on Sky One)?

I could do without the SciFi soft porn -- just space filler for the channel, I think.

They had Alien Nation a while back and ran it a few times but their rights to it expired long ago...

The rights to Jeremiah's Second and by far best season are still held firmly by SKY One, who according to the email i got back from them have no schedule/intentions to show it "anytime" soon, or before the end of time as we know it :(

They've also got Dark Skies, which they say also isn't planned to be screened "anytime soon"

It makes perfect sense spending money on a program and then never showing it.. :(

At least Scifi show what they've got (at some point), now if they would just drop the "heres what day it is, remember to breath, and every other kind of logo crap they have on the screen at some point i'd be happy.

Anyone else enjoying "Profiler" thats just started on Scifi...haven't seen that in ages :)

Any War of the Worlds fans, probably already know but S1 comes out on DVD on November 1st R1 woohoo! finally dump those old VHS tapes.. and a SE of the original PAL 53 movie.

Did they have a "Babylon 5.......Its coming home.....to Scifi" advert running when it was shown ?

That seems to ring a bell come to think of it...although it might have been somthing completely different :)

They definitely showed B5 - I'm absolutely sure of that because I didn't get into B5 when it was shown originally, I only started watching when Sci-Fi showed Seasons 1-4, in the right order, one episode per night.

And it must have been in '99, cos I was well hooked and going to B5 conventions from 2000 onwards.
