Beccie - I give you a quote from an Australian Neighbours web-site where they were asking the same questions. I quote:

"Wot r uz readin!! Joe skully got done for indecent exposure in a primary school and is sacked "

I KNEW I had read it somewhere !!

I know Neighbours, as simple as they do, cover serious storylines such as cancer, rape, affairs etc. However, I seriously could not see them tackling a storyline/topic as serious as this due to the time of day it is on. They would not be able to cover it adequately enough to explain to both adults and children why someone could do this and how to deal with such a situation. No he's off helping with his cousin's (or whatever) farm that had been involved in a bush fire. I believe he crashes his car or something along these lines, on his drive back home. I could be mistaken!

Qwik fix storyline to boot Joe Scully (Shane Conor) out of the worst family in Neighbours history. They aren't worthy of living in Helen Daniels/Jim Robertson/Phil Martin's old house!

Please say that was a typo.. Surely you couldn't have forgotten the great Jim Robinson that easliy? ;)

I think she was referring to the actor being done for indecent exposure, not the character. Although I have to agree with beccie and say I wouldn't take anything written in that format seriously either..

Really? OMG that's a bit scary isn't it. Well then I do hope it's just that he's been smoking something dodgy and not that.

Did anyone see him on The Salon? I'm sure something had happened at that point but can't remember what he was saying!

I would love to see Valda as a regular, she at least brings some comic relief to the show. I liked it when she was the chef at Lou's Place and kept dreaming up wild receipes. A few characters like that never go amiss in a soap.

Yeah, Valda's great - she's like the Blanche of Neighbours! :D

In the absence of Joe I hope we get some Harold & Valda scenes.

The new Harold's hilarious & today was fab when he was insulting Susan & Valda had a word with him about it. It'd be good to see more interaction with these two. :D

From what I can remember, he was making out that his leaving was a mutual decision cos he didn't want to stay too long or something...

Did you notice that he's been taken out of the title sequence? (At least I think he has - I didn't see him with Lyn or Jack and Steph was with Max I think)

Although I don't know how the credits work because his name was still in them, maybe it's just put over the credits by whoever broadcasts it (BBC) and they've forgotten to take him out. That seems likely because the Beeb sometimes squash the credits (but not the background images) to the right while they have an advert on the left...

A quick google search on 'Shane Connor' and 'Neighbours' has come up with *THIS* article - it would seem that no-one is 100% sure yet quite why he was sacked...

    $200,000 lather
    By Nick Papps - April 17, 2004

SACKED Neighbours star Shane Connor has hit the television show with a $200,000-plus bill. Connor, who played Joe Scully, is suing the program's producers, claiming he was unfairly sacked last September.

A Supreme Court writ issued by Connor reveals he was earning more than $5000 a week in the long-standing soapie and he is now suing for lost fees.

Last year, Connor made headlines after his contract was cancelled and he was escorted off the Neighbours Nunawading set. No reason has ever been given for his sacking after four years on the Channel 10 soapie.

Legal documents obtained by the Herald Sun show Connor is suing Neighbours producers Grundy Television for breaching his agreement, excluding him from the workplace, failing to pay his fees and damaging his reputation.

He is seeking $209,514 for fees for the 10 months his contract still had to run, to July 2004, as well as damages and costs.

The documents say that after joining the show in July 1999, Connor was paid from $2250 a week for appearing in two episodes, up to $5422 a week to appear in five episodes.

Last night a senior Grundy Television representative said the writ would be vigorously defended.

"The reasons for the termination are well-founded and well-documented," the representative said.

I think that they might wait until his character has left officially because just now he is just away looking after his family and could be back at any time.

Shane Connor was sacked because he kept on turning up drunk on set. He had been given many warnings by the 'Neighbours' bosses, so when he turned up drunk again, they suspended him and escorted him off the premises. The show then dismissed him.

The closing credits must be a generalised cast list that they probably only update when someone new comes in.
