Fantastic. Thank you so much for this. Just yesterday I emailed Sky requesting clarification regarding the premium channels required for free Sky+. Their rules are so hazy in relation to the standard packs, now I understand why!!! You have made my day.... :D

It's FTA, so does not require a Sky subscription.

And how do you mean free Sky+? Anybody who has a Sky+ box and subs to at least 2 premium channels gets the Sky+ sub free.

    Can i just check:
I was looking at getting Sky+ so was also trying to find my cheapest option of 2 Premium channel packages too include Sky Sports 1.

Originally i thought that my cheapest option was £34.00 p/month (i.e package 1H) but then i saw package 1J which was almost identical except for different movie channels and £4.00 cheaper p/month.

Is this correct that the 2 packages even though almost the same are so different in price ??

    Thanks.

This is correct yeah. Pack 1J is the cheapest, well cheapest with family pack, to get the 2 premium channels hence the Sky + Rec facility free.

Dont know why the big difference in price, cos it is only 1 movie channel you lose, and the new movies are shown on movies 2 as well now.

Can you still recieve these packages because I cannot find most of them on the official sky webpages. For example the package that I am most interested in (1J) is not mentioned at all in the full package list on www.ordersky.com

If you can still recieve these packages how do you ordering them because I cannot find them anywhere else.

    Cheers

Pretty sure you can but they don't advertise that you can get free movie channels when you only subscribe to 1 sports channel....sure they said something along the lines of 'we can't put it on to all subscribers accounts automatically as there are people who DON'T want any movie channels' ???weird huh !!!

Any way, so if you were subscribing to 1J @£30.00 and got no movie channels, it should just be a matter of phoning Sky and asking for the extra movie channels that your'e entitled to to be added to your viewing package.

If in doubt phone them and quote package 1J and asks whats included, if they don't mention movies mention it to them.

You can DEF still receive these package's. The movies aren't free however. If you just have sky sports 1, then the package is £38.50 per mont, however you wouldn't get the Sky + re facility free. If you added movies 2,4,6 and 8 it increseases the price up to £30 (£1.50 increase) but gves you the 2nd premium channel hence the free Sky +.

Most install options ask you to keep Sky World (Pack 1A) for 1s, all you need to do is after first month is completed call Sky and ask to reduce to package 1J, or ask for sports 1 and movies 2, the operator will do this for you.

There is no such thing as BBC2 West.

The are 4 versions of BBC2 - BBC2 England, BBC2 Scotland, BBC2NI and BBC2W (in true Blairite fashion, the 'name' of BBC2 Wales was 'modernised' some time ago and is now BBC2W).

If your subscription viewing card is giving you something else on 102 (it shouldn't because the channels depend on your postcode), select channel 961.

Do these packages still exist? As the site only mentions the value pack and family pack now.
Also if you don't subscribe to any of Sky's services, what are the free options? I know about FreeSat, £150 one off payment, but are there others where you still pay £120 installation and £200 for the digibox? The sky website seems very vague to me as to what packages they're offering.

Just done a search through the forums to try and answer my question, and it seems no one understands their subscription packages now:confused: No one appears to know the answer to my question, what a brilliant marketing plan, don't tell anyone about the lower priced packages, I think I'll go for cable if I ever go for multi channel TV, it's simpler and much cheaper!
