Jill Halfpenny returning to Corrie?

EastEnders actress Jill Halfpenny could be on her way back to Coronation Street.

While on the Street, Halfpenny played the role of nurse Rebecca Hopkins, who had a tempestuous affair with Martin Platt.

Rebecca left the Street and headed to the Middle East, while Halfpenny took a trip from Weatherfield to Walford.

Currently she plays Kate, the hairdressing wife of absentee bad boy Phil Mitchell, on EastEnders.

But reports suggesting that she could be available again soon have set hearts pumping fast in Weatherfield.

'There's no doubt that Rebecca was the great love of Martin's life and the storyline where she went to the Middle East was left open for a return,' a Corrie insider told the Daily Star.

'When news of Jill's availability came through, it triggered storyline possibilities for us.

'And there's every chance she will be coming back.'

Proposed plotlines could see Rebecca installed as Martin's boss and entering into a battle with his current live-in lover Katy.

I don't think she should return.

I didn't like her in Corrie or EastEnders (though she did improve), however she seems very nice in real life on Strictly Come Dancing so she doesn't deserve to fade into the shadows.

It would work if she won Martin but not if it was just a battle, look at me aren't I greedy? I want to know the outcome now.

I'd much prefer her to be a Street regular than Katy flaming Harris.

No, Katy is to get pregnant with Martin's baby and then marry him early next year according to a recent spoiler...I'd actually prefer 'Rebecca' than Katy but I'd rather see none of them to be honest.

I'd love Jill back in corrie, there's plenty of unfinished business between Rebecca and Martin.

Ben I may have dreamt this but I'm sure you'll know. I'm sure I read that the actor (who's name escapes me) who plays Ashley was going to gradually lose the 'Ashley' helium voice as he was getting stick off his mates for it.

Do you know if that was true or just another nasty rumour?

Personally I'd love to hear Ashley with a more gruff voice. :o Saying that, that's what makes the character I suppose.

    Stephen Arnold.

Can he lose it successfully without being another Vicki Fowler?

Yeah, I remember this rumour from ages and ages ago, but it appears to have been just that - a rumour.

You've got to admit that Corrie is great for character traits which make people stand out - Ashley's squeaky voice, Fred's "I say, I say" :D
