TOPUPTVSAMPLER has just changed to 'Xtraview' here on Pontop Pike. There's no video or audio, just a black screen. Anyone know what this is?

Does anyone think that TopupTV are changing their name to "Xtraview", to go with 'Freeview'

Topup Tv always was a stupid name, maybe now they've realised it.

I'd doubt they'd change there name after just a year of being on the air. It might be a taster channel for Freeview viewers?

Also, they had a new look (see the Top Up TV website), why would they bother with that if they were to change the name of the company?

EDIT: Name also changed at Crystal Palace.

Sounds like a reasonable summation to me. But haven't they just updated thier logo? Seems silly to change their name so soon after.

    Rebranding, then?
On the face of it, 'Xtraview' would mark it out as something extra, but distinct from, Freeview. No bad thing. I hate it when non media savvy people (like my sister) say things like 'we can't get all the channels', by which they mean any Freeview muxes they can't pick up AND the Top Up ones. I personally don't like the concept of pay TV outlets taking up space on the digital terrestrial platform but, given better brand distinction, hopefully people will vote with their wallets! (And mine is sealed like a virgin's XXXXX.)

It's not the best domain name in the world, especially when people can confuse it with extraview.co.uk quite easily.

What is it with the word 'Xtra' these days anyway?

    You got:
    EastEnders Xtra
    Sky Sports Xtra
    ITV 2 X:tra programmes

Now Xtraview... what's wrong with Extra?

Xtraview on Belmont though - at the moment it's a sound only channel though.

Well the letter "X" is apparently used to make things look cool-
    Xbox
    Liberty X
    Malcolm X
    Resident Evil Code Veronica X

Its good to see they have got away from the ugly shouting of the TOPUPTVSAMPLER. Have they not heard of lower case? Does their keyborad not have a spacebar?

As for what it is I guess we can only speculate at the moment. Could be name change, name changes are often staggered. Could be a PPV service.

I wonder what the BBC will have to say about this new service. Arguable using the name "xtraview" is trying to link it in the public's mind more firmly with Freeview.

Edit: All google seems to reveal is that "xtraview" appears to be a tradmark of NEC Mitsubishi for a LCD screens. I doubt they are related

If it was a new porn channel, then the LCN would be 62, not 36.
