If I remember rightly, It's Only TV... was shown pretty late on BBC1 so it didn't stand much of a chance. It's a shame because it's often hilariously funny, and much much better than the recent '29 Minutes' with Bob Mortimer which was apparently deemed fit for Friday night primetime viewing.
Oh i used to love this show! I think I taped a few...I liked the game where they had to guess who the tv character was by Jonathan Ross reading out their 'catchphrase' .... I shall always remember the catchphrase being 'This may sting a bit....' and Phil Jupitus buzzing in and saying 'Is it a wasp....?' hehe kinda have to see it though I guess..
It's been the best 'subject' panel show there's been since Have I Got News For You started.
Best ever round they did was a 'guess the alien from Doctor Who' round.
They did it a la Blind Date with the 3 aliens sitting on stools and the teams had to question them life being persude by the Doctor.
2 of the aliens were quite credible, but the third one was called a mow-heeb - a very silly looking orange coloured thing, with a upper-class accent. (Its planet enemies were the 'geordies' and it's diet was jaffa cakes and hedges - the latter being for roughage).
One of the panellists was Keith Chegwin, who instantly dismissed the mow-heeb out for being daft, unbelivable and obviously made up.
To which the actor playing the mow-heeb replied without a pause "Well, it takes one to know one, Keith"

This is true, the last series was in 2001 or 2002.
Low Ratings?
Always good for a laugh.
Yeah. Loved the bit where you had to guess the show they were acting out. Ace.
That part was brill, especially when they often messed it all up.
BBC really should bring it back though...
What is it with shows I enjoy being cancelled?

Another one springs to mind:
JR as Dot Cotton: I don't think I'll ever see my Charlie again..
PJ: Frank Bough?
The "Guess The Real Dr Who Alien" game as classic.
It was brilliant, they had the "guess the dr who alien" game.
The third alien was brilliant.
One of the panel: What emotions does your species have?
Alien 3: We only have two emotions, happy, and dancing.
Leave it dead and buried!
