"half the trick of it is to work out the
formula."
1. Please advise a) the meaning and b) the dictionary source of "NEKS".
2. Please advise a) the meaning and b) the dictionary source of "DOKE".
Whats the other half of the trick. I do not even try to work out any numerical puzzles, cos they're so illogical.
I have divulged the meanings of NEKS and DOKS already. Both are 'proper' words, although so 'outside the box' as to be stupid. I actually got through (using the web) with RAZZ, which means to take the mickey. Worth a free shot. I wouldn't waste any money on these people.
I'll have a look at my OED later to see if they're in there.
Another puzzling thing, when the NEKS scam puzzle was on there was £50k in the jackpot. As the 'winner' didn't beat the tempting 127-1 odds involved and win it why has the jackpot dropped last night by £20k??
Thank you, for your email, great to hear you are enjoying the show.

complies with all necessary codes and guidelines. We constantly review the
channels production to ensure that it is fair and seen to be fair.
We give the answers to all our quizzes on-air and we only ever have one
answer for each quiz we show. Some of the more difficult puzzles are put
together using a strict formula and half the trick of it is to work out the
formula.
We obviously cannot divulge those formulas, as this would be unfair to the
other players who aren't watching at the time when we use a similar type
of puzzle in the future.

Dear TGBBQ,
The correct answer to a recent 'Find the word' puzzle was "NEKS".
1. Please advise a) the meaning and b) the dictionary source of "NEKS".
Also, the solution involved the word "DOKE" as the third word across.
2. Please advise a) the meaning and b) the dictionary source of "DOKE".

I look forward to hearing from you.

Nice little response from Tgbbq, Yet again, as in response to most of my emails too, they just do not answer the question.
I am one of those "saddo's" that unfortunately became addicted to TGBBQ, [terrified of what my phone bill is going to be}. I now realise what a great big scam it is. Obvious answers not quite so obvious. So now I watch Quizmania, I really will have to get out more!.
and the norfolk referring to the chances of winning
"norfolk 'n chance" (probably best said out loud with a geordie accent)
I see from the TGBBQ website the £25k winner is from Wells in Norfolk. Wonder if it's worth a tinkle to the local rag to see if they can locate the mystery winner as it's a newsworthy story!
It has indeed all been said, except perhaps that I emailed TGBBQ yesterday to enquire into "NEKS" and "DOKE" (both of course from the recent WIN_OW puzzle).
Based on previous, failed attempts by others to engage TGBBQ in dialogue, I obviously was not optimistic, but just thought I would take the opportunity to see if they really do respond within 2 working days, as stated in their T&C's.
They did in my case - I have just received TGBBQ's (highly predictable) reply, which most of us here could have written for them! I set out the exchange of emails below for general public amusement/frustration/other?
Thank you, for your email, great to hear you are enjoying the show.

I would have asked the same thing regarding the words dictionary source but their reply avoids a direct answer.
What has "formulas" got to do with what you asked?
.....What has "formulas" got to do with what you asked?
Very little - it looks remarkably like a 'one-fits-all' standard reply to quizzers who enquire how they arrived at their solution to any given puzzle (add the numbers, chips, dice, find the word or correct road signs etc.). Only time will tell if TGBBQ know more than this one reply .
No, you're right - and it has been a varied afternoon!
During evenings and weekends, TGBBQ tends to be hours on end of the same thing, as we know, but today I was able to (sort of) follow it on a weekday afternoon just for once. I was amazed to see them work their way from LA_DER over 'easy ones' to Downing Street back to 'easy ones' and then to road signs within the space of only some 3 hours.
They are not leaving us much time to get a 'heated' discussion going over any one quiz - as intended? Or perhaps weekday afternoons are always a bit like this?

well, time marches on, as they say. thought this one looked quite easy when it came on - but still going so perhaps not - looks to me like thet're all correct except two...though i would concede that is probably not correct - if you get what i mean

Well easy until you consider you have no way of knowing which of these road signs are actually correct. They will change them in such a subtle way you probably can't perceive on your tv.
So that means there are just 512 possible combinations. So draw yourself up a truth table, note all the answers that other people have that are wrong. Use your 100 entries a month up.. and you should be able to work out the answer before Christmas......... 2008.
Until then use this simple secret formula
If prize money is greater than £100... its not an easy quiz. Don't be fooled. Don't call them.

That is of course assuming he actually exists!

What made you think it was me?

However, there is no entry for doke.
