  I haven't found either the hard disc or fan to be noisy - get it checked or see the thread that shows how to replace the fan with a quieter computer one.
  Thanks, John, for the 250Gb upgrade guide. Might try it once the unit is out of guarantee.

  Just sorted this. It turn out the fan was vibrating on the fan cover. I removed the cover and the noise has gone. I cannot even here any noise now from the recorder.
