Not sure what package I am on at the mo. Either the old 4meg (pre big pack) or a 2meg Big Pack. Pretty pleased about my upstream!

Is anything being done to improve your speed?
Do you get any problems with the TV service?

You should still be getting around 250kb/s and your upload is still pretty poor, not good for playing games and if you use P2P networks.

But if you dont, and only use your Net mildly it aint that bad. (I couldn't deal with that though!)

250k is a bit ambitious for 2 meg i think (maybe more like 1900?) but it would seem that connection is up and down like a yo yo, i use p2p and the net very heavily but have not noticed any really harmful effects, this evening we seem to be near up to par ie.

I think were getting our kilobits and kilobytes mixed up here.

When I had the 2Meg connection I always got 250KB/sec and 125KB/sec on the 1Meg.

Your probably best off with the 1Meg package as its close to the speeds your getting anyway and you'll save a little each month. :)

    I have a 2Mb Connection. Seems ok.

Only have problems with TV service when i am uploading data.

Apart from this it's fine. I am upgrading soon to the max line, so i need more scores people. Please post them on here for us to deliberate !

I run it through a home plug wiring for distribution thoughout the house so that may slow it down a bit.

Interesting thing is that I always receive the same speed whatever time of day I test. This was true at my old house also. When I was with NTL I never got anything close to the speed I was supposed to and it was always a lot slower in the evening.

remeber to switch your tv service off (use the HC remote) before testing. Thats worth 1.75mbit.

What do you use for the wiring distribution, In_The_Know? I have only seen systems capable of dealing with 50KB/sec! I would love to have a play with something like that - I really fancy doing a distributed tv and audio setup but don't have CAT5 runs.

Homechoice installed it. It is a Devolo Micorlink dLAN Ethernet, but it is only for internet, not TV. Works really well. I have internet everywhere there is a mains plug! I used to have wireless at the old house, but this is much better. Completely reliable.

Well, if you have that much bandwidth I am sure you could send tv and video signals down it - you just need a digitiser to take the video signal and output ethernet and then an undigitiser to reverse the process. There are some post on avforums on how to do this, although I am not sure if there is any commercial kit to do it.

Actually there is a purpose built audio streamer

    http://www.devolo.co.uk/uk_EN/produkte/dLAN/mldlanaudio.html

There is also a high speed version which has an 85Mbps transfer rate (rather than 14)!!!!

    >Does anyone know what cmgs2/rmgs2 means on the RGB test?
Not exactly, but they are the maximum estimated Up and down speeds I think.

    My figures are
    cmgs2: 1200, 23db, 8db
    rmgs2 : 102264, 12db,14db

Press yellow on RGB screen (Actual max speed settings??) gives more details.
    Upstream: 576, 23db, 8db
    Downstream 8992, 23db, 8db

Giving me ADSLguide figures like thus

    Downstream 6519 Kbps (814.9 KB/sec) 7040 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 473 Kbps (59.1 KB/sec) 510 Kbps (inc. overheads)

By the way, looking at the RGB line check screen, the Blue chart is a frequency spectrum of the line. There is a solid black line missing out on it where voice is used (I think, possibly some other carrier signal). A close to oblong shape should be preferred, indication good transmission at all frequencies. In theory, that sort of chart could show the difference between line capacitance, inductance, resistance and crosstalk occuring on a line.

Turns out after a phonecall to HC last night that I'm on 8 meg already. She looked at my line and said I wouldn't be able to actually get 8 meg though, and the possible problems with my browsing of late may be relative to that.

    Downstream 3452 Kbps (431.5 KB/sec) 3728 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 491 Kbps (61.4 KB/sec) 530 Kbps (inc. overheads)

Had to get them to cap me to keep it sensible, browsing is still slow as hell!

Thats more than enough speed for browsing. What kind of problem is it... Is it that it takes ages to connect to websites or is it slow in loading up graphics, etc or is it both?

Noticed a lot of complaints on various forums about websites connecting slowly i had the same problem but found this on the Homechoice site and it helped.

Why can't I access certain websites?
One of the most common causes for not being able to access certain websites - while still being able to browse normally - is because the proxy settings in IE aren't set correctly. To set them correctly, please follow these instructions:

    Open 'internet Explorer'.
Click on 'Tools' at the top and then select 'internet Options' from the drop down list and you will see a white box. Add the address of the site you are trying to access in here so that your internet Explorer will not request this page via the proxy server.
Click on the 'Connections' tab, highlight your Homechoice connection in the white box at the top and then click on 'Settings' to the right of this box.
Ensure that 'Automatically Detect Settings' and 'Use Automatic Configuration Script' are NOT ticked.
Make sure 'Use a Proxy Server' and 'Bypass Proxy Server For Local Addresses' are ticked.
Click the 'Advanced' button immediately to the right of these options.
In the 'Http' section at the top enter "proxy.Homechoice.co.uk" into the address box and "3128" into the port box.
Tick the 'Use the same proxy server for all protocols' box at the bottom.
Click 'Ok' 3 times to return to internet Explorer.
Close and reopen internet Explorer. Your proxy settings are now correct for use with the Homechoice service. Another possible reason is that the site you are trying to view is a secure site and won't allow data to be cached by a proxy server. If you continue to have problems, please contact Customer Care on 0845 678 3333.
