As replacement for aged VCR it seems like a bargain particularly as it connects via co-ax. My old TV has no scart.
    Does the spec mention freeview?

I`ve not heard much about this particular brand but the specification is impressive. With a three year guarantee thrown in, it would appear to be a bargain.

The Coax is only for viewing when antenna reception is in use.
To view a DVD or recording, the scart connection is required.
Well it is with my DVD recorder.

They are charging £199.99 for this in their Northern Ireland stores - a 33% differential.

    Hardly justifiable.

Indeed. The £199 cost in NI is maybe meant to correspond with the €299 cost in the republic.

But charging more in NI than the rest of the UK does seem very very naughty.

I've been onto the General Consumer Council about this NI/GB differential - it's not illegal as far as I know, but is grossly unfair and unjustifiable.

It's not fair to the RoI either, though of course people there are used to being ripped-off by UK multiples (and maybe even moreso by home-grown shops!).

Have you noticed they don't even have them for sale in Scotland?
At least you can get it in NI.
Lidl do this all the time-they have items available in most of England, but a lot of their good stuff isn't sold in Scotland

What is the southwest of England? Is Southampton southeast or southwest?

if you look on a map and draw a line down from bristol southwest is all to left of it. southhampton is classed as southern england

I feel sorry for the Belgians but there is simply no justification for 33% price differential - £50 - within the one economy, ie. the UK.

I await their comments - the GCC for NI are getting onto Trading Standards for me. Maybe I should contact Watchdog or the Radio 4 one but I don't want people to think it's life or death.

As Barry said, the manual is available for this.
It does do timeshift but after reading the manual, it doesn't do what I would call timeshift. If I'm reading it right, you can pause it with the timeshift button, then unpause it to watch the rest of the show.
But it doesn't mention anywhere the ability for action replays or any form of 'rewind' function. That'd put me off.

    Almost.

Double layer - the plus version this records to on DL.

Dual layer is the minus(dash) version which this doesn't record to.

    Still, I'm gonna get one.

i didnt realise this was suddenly set in stone +dl = double layer, -dl = duel layer

always thought dl could mean either double or duel, especially as they mean the same

    Hi
Has anyone got one of these? Do you think it would be suitable for me?
    My priorities are:

    Good recording and playback qualities.
Being able to watch one recorded program whilst recording another.
Having an easy way to set up recording times (some sort of program guide)
Being able to copy to a DVD that can be played on a standard DVD player.
Being able to tape from sky (not sky+)
Being able to fast forward adverts
    Ease of setup
    Reliabilty
    Quiet operation.

    Thanks
    Ian

Somebody on Avforums got one today in Ireland. He seems impressed and he also says it is multi region hackable.

    Looked at the manual.
No mention of RGB input, despite the RGB output, and there appears to be no rate conversion from HDD>DVD.
So it looks like another of the typical supermarket cheapies.
Lots of different formats to play, some options not available on pricier models, but the lack of RGB input or rate conversion is a downer.
The "Just fit" option for dvd appears to be for direct recording rather than the more useful HDD dubbing.Which is a shame as its quite an impressive little package.
But the manual does give the impression that its not really covering everything

Connections: Scart-in (RGB, Video), Scart-out (RGB, S-video and video)
    it says Scart-in(RGB).
does that mean it has RGB input?

I reckon this is RGB in, but then what do I know? "Scart-in (RGB, Video), "
