Well we have had to sack some staff this morning as they were claiming overtime but actually going home early! I have had to make a report to my bosses about them and now they have all been sacked! lol So close to Christmas as well! Serves them right the slackers! They even tried to drop me in it by saying I was part of it! My bosses are well happy with me for finding this out. Hope they have a crap Xmas! Have you ever had to go through anything similar?

We work flexi-time and a friend of mine a few years ago was aware that 2 of her colleagues (a grade under her) were clocking out for half an hour for lunch break, but were then going down into the publications library and sleeping for an hour! She agonised for ages over what to do about it and eventually confronted them, to give them chance to stop before they got into trouble, but they took no notice so she had to take it higher. She actually became quite ill as a result of the stress of all this, as the management seemed a little uninterested and seemed to blame her for causing trouble. Eventually the 2 men in question resigned before they could be sacked, but my friend was quite unwell for a long time afterwards. Suffice to say, she was considerably less gleeful about the whole affair than you seem to be, noddy! ;)

I've had to tell staff that they would be losing their jobs, just before Christmas, yes.

However, I found it thoroughly depressing.

Well I can see what you mean but hey they are putting people like us in difficult positions. If they are claiming for work and sleeping then they should be sacked whatever time of year. Also these gits have tried to bring me into it so why should I feel sorry for them? They have got what they deserved basically!

I have never actually been in a possition to actually fire anyone directly due to having a variety of possitions in different companies which had different rules & procedures over who had the authority.

When I was a CSM for a mail order company I requested that the Call Centre Manager removed a number of staff (she was the same level but my remit was "customer" hers was "employees") and a couple of them will have been arround xmas time. None of the sackings I have been involved in have had anything to do with people being "poor at the job" - that is a training issue and the worst that happens is the person is moved rather than sacked - but attitude problems/ consistantly breaking the rules were the cause and they have no one to blame but themselves in my opinion.

My problem is that I dont like doing line management - at the moment it is not an issue as I can get to "Senior Manager" grade in my team without having to line manage anyone but the step up to be a business unit director will be seriously hampered by the lack of line management experience of manager grade (I doubt they will count my being a team leader in a call centre very highly)

It is hard I guess but you have to be tough with these types of people. If it is redundancy then yes that is more difficult I guess.

I have had cause to sack people on a fairly regular basis.

Constructive Dismissal is where an employee feels compelled to resign due to intolerable demands at work. In your situatuation, I would term it Constructive Resignation. They clearly didn't want the job, otherwise they would be doing it properly.

Never feel bad about letting someone go, when they have shown by their actions that they want to go. In that circumstance, the employer is the injured party.

But its not really about the fact that some people got sacked.

Its more about that your on here lol'ing about it, saying you hope they have a crap christmas and telling everyone how pleased your bosses are with you.

To be honest you come across as a bit of a pr**k.

I first thought this was a a thread about the best way to go about dismissing somone, but instead it just seems to be an excuse for you to tell everyone how clever you are.

I hope you run into some of these blokes in the pub over christmas, you can lol in thier faces and then see what happens.

If you read I wanted to see if anyone else had been through this at all? So why should i work my hours and they work less and claim overtime? Would you do that or put up with it? Never done anything like that no. I'm not scared really as they are just a bunch of losers with no brains between them. It is worth it if you have principles and care about the company you work for and the other staff. Oh and just for the record I'm more like Tim in the office personality wise.

I've never actually sacked anyone personally for theft/gross misconduct. But I do remember years ago when I worked as an auditor, I found a number of expenses claims apparently signed by a very senior manager for the same employee. Nothing wrong with that in itself, as this manager signed tons of expense claim forms. But he always used turquoise (sp) ink from a fountain pen, and although these signatures looked identical, they were signed in black ballpoint. If he had mixed the ball point among all the expenses I wouldn't have given it a second thought, but because they were just the same chap, I walked up to this guy's office and asked him if they were his signatures. He assured me they weren't and took the forms off me.

The next day I heard that the perpetrator had been sacked and escorted from the building. He was lucky that criminal charges for forgery were not pressed.

What do you expect them to be after they got sacked just before Christmas? Delighted? And as for the text's, you might be happy and smug with yourself over the part you played getting them the sack, but people can be very vengeful. Be careful.

Why should it be put off? You are joking I take it? Hey they are taking us for a ride but hey it's Christmas! What the hell leave it a few more weeks! They will have to pay money back as well I guess to the company?

    Hi

I don't take offence at what you did or thought you had to do but why take delight in sacking someone so close to Xmas , you clearly did by inserting "Lol " into the middle of your Op

Remember what goes around comes around

Re-read his OP, he didn't sack anybody...he grassed them up to the bosses...

    Much worse, IMO

I've had to let people go and to be honest with you it made me physically sick, the idea of taking away their livelihood in the stroke of a pen. I have to say the OP sounds like a right callous twat, full of his own self importance. I hope that the place he(?) works has a strong union presence to ensure a certain amount of parity exists in that workplace.

It's a awful feeling to dismiss someone and I really find it difficult to believe the OP is telling the truth as he seems to find it so amusing.
