dvd shrink

I have been in the habit of making back-ups of my dvd collection as the kids use the originals. Now that dvd shrink dosn't work on most dvd's being produced now, has anyone found a replacement software that provides this service please.

I found this out at the weekend also. I then decided to try Nero 7.0 & it worked fine, just as DVD Shrink used to.

I find if you use AnyDVD to crack the protection as you insert the DVD, DVDShrink will then happily back the disc up fine.

Process the disc first with something like DVDFab Decrypter (or DVD Dycrypter if it's still available.)

all discs "should" work with shrink unless copy protected.

but in the last few weeks, irrespective of what kind of dvds ive got, its always given the allocation error :(

My process is to use DVDDecrypter: resultant output to hard disk.
Then use DVDShrink on this output.
If you want to have more than one go at shrinking the dvd,
i.e not happy with result. you don't have to go through the decryption process again.
Never had a problem, so far.

DVDFab Decrypter seems much better at recent films, as DVD Decrypter does not cope at all well with the most recent encryption types

Any specific examples which DVD Decrypter fails?

I think you may be confused.
One of the main reasons for using DVD Shrink is that it removes the copy protection from dvd's and will copy them to your PC whether there's CP or not.
Note also that Macrovision themselves have claimed all the rights to DVD Decrypter so there is no official DVDD site, but you should be able to download it from other sites.
Macrovision has always been a crap copy protection system ,since it first appeared on VHS in the UK in 1986,and movie companies have been ripped off by these crooks who tell them their property is protected when it isn't.
Macrovision are so desperate now they are taking legal action to stop copying software being issued anywhere, proving that their sh1t protection system still can't do what it claims, yet these mug dvd companies continue to fill the coffers of Macrovision.
But of course,Decrypter won't shrink the contents to fit on a single layer disc like DVD Shrink does.
I stopped using the latest version of Shrink ages ago when it did not work properly.
I reverted to an earlier version that works fine.

    .

The point I was making in an earlier post. If DVDShrink fails in the decryption phase, use sometthing like DVDDecrypter to remove the copy protection. Then, if you need to shrink the dvd to sinlge layer, run DVDShink on the unencrypted output.
