Interestingly, on my EPG, this channel is showing a time of 13:03 and the date is 18/04/2006....which is about the time the BBC started doing their HD tests wasn't it?
Accoridng to my box its being transmitted from crystal palce B - wasn't that the one used for HD?
EDIT:That's what the box says - my signal is coming from winter hill
Does it say who the broadcaster is for the channel
On my cheapo box, provider = "unknown", although the providers for all other channels are present.
This topic's now split across two seperate threads, this one, and the one in "Technical".
Just posted in the other thread, the channel also comes up as "Service e040" when initially scanning. I also confirm it is definately on UHF 50.
If I go into the technical info submenu of the DTT box, and the main picture goes quarter screen, I see "test channel NGW" written across the quarter screen image.
I stand to be corrected but it could possibly be Channel fives new channels. I heard that Channel 6 channel would be something from channel five. So it would make sense really as Channel six comes right after five.
Perhaps Five us, will be Channel six or Six and Five Life will be channel seven or Six Kids networK.

That's an interesting point.
But, aren't the new "five" channels going on one of the existing 6 Muxes, on space formerly occupied by TUTV?
This appears to be a new 7th Mux on Winter Hill, so it looks like more for a trial service, rather than permanent channels, although I could be mistaken.
I think this, as 7 Muxes can't be delivered nationally and to all relays until after analogue swith off AFAIK.
EDIT:- this discussion is referring to the new digital service that's just appeared on Winter Hill on UHF50, and not related to analogue.
I think I read somehwere that National Grid Wireless (ie. NGW) handle the BBC's output and Arqiva the commercial channels. If this is the case, it looks more likely that it is a BBC test.

Interesting! Could it be related to this?

Do you know what UHF channel or Mux it is on?
Also this is my 500th post
Same here, I'll certainly do a rescan when I get in later.
no it really is there
So to summarise, looks like HD trials are starting from Winter Hill using a new multiplex on UHF 50?
No more info right now. Just plugging my PC based DTT card in to see if I can find anything further...
# locked on 706000KHz, please wait for network information...
# Network Information...
Network_3("Crystal Palace B", 554000, 8, 1)
Regards,
Nick.
Does that match anything from the current 8 muxes
Just wondering what Network_3 is
No, that's a different frequency to the others.
Regards,
Nick.

Sorry maybe i lost something.
Just a thought.
Well, on Winter Hill, the main 6 Muxes are on UHF 56, 60 (40), 63 (43), 66, 67, 68
Numbers in brackets denote two duplicated Muxes on the filler transmitter Winter Hill 'B'.
This is the first time I've seen anything broadcasting on UHF 50.
The DTT box lists this new LCN on 506 as being on UHF channel 50.
Assuming my DTT box is correct that is
