Do argos and sony know something we dont - is there some issue with the box in other threads since latest MHEG text update - or was it EPG?

The unit is now end of line. It has been out for a while and lasted longer on the market than a lot of boxes. BTW Currys Currys.digital (formally Dixons) EOL too.

THat's a great price. As said the box has been on the market a long time now (at least 18 months, probably more), shame there's none in any store near me (and a shame I don't need another freeview box).

It's certainly quite a venerable old box now in Freeview terms... it'll be interesting to see what they replace it with - probably something a little bit cheaper to produce, I expect. It's difficult to sell a £100+ Freeview box (as this was when it was launched) when PVRs are coming in at £99 and below now.

Of course Sony's own PVR is £250, despite being a clone of a £150 Fusion.

I got one sshhh - had to use the store finder and travel a bit.
    And it works
ITV1 text still has 'please wait' but it does come out of it :)
Still no page numbers on local 33x listings but you can type a page number and get a page up.
    svideo seems to work too
Runs off mains not 12v adapter so no good travelling :(

Just need teletext to sort their end out
    - it's daft having the pages squashed into the right side of the screen.
How is that more readable than analogue

Margate & Hastings are the nearest stores to me that have a Sony in stock. But I wouldn't waste my money just for a brand name :D

Matsui TUTV1 for £40 from Dixons (was £30 last week I think).

But it really depends what you want from the receiver....like connections for example.

If you really want to push the boat out abit, and not spend more than £100, get yourself a single tuner PVR from Dixons....The Ferguson FPVR1T comes highly recommended at just £89.97

I didnt buy if for the logo - it came within budget and it seems to work
I suppose you'll tell me I should have got the Matsui :(

    The remote is fiddly
tiny buttons with even tinier logos
is there an all in one with big buttons that will talk to it

I can't believe you bought a STB that isn't on the Digital Tick list :D especially after all the fuss you've made  http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showpost.php?p=9835887&postcount=12

I would always recommend Access Devices receivers, and have already recommended it directly to you: http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showpost.php?p=9819958&postcount=177

You might have found the Matsui remote buttons abit small....but I think it's fine

The Matsui TUTV1 has the exact remote as my old daewoo setpal. I'm stoked!

Watch it be out of stock in Dixon's tomorrow. LOL.

Except it's silver and some buttons do different things, but these remotes must be OEMed - seen them on a few other things too.

bbci doesnt work properly but I'm guessing that's not a box fault
I dont think I have the right aspect ratio setting yet - on BBC1 the press red button is just off top of screen.
If I do press red it goes to bbci, press news multiscreen, flick around a bit press something to go back and it goes to news24 rather than BBC1
    What am I doing wrong?

Beats the Asda Onn box - no contest :)

    Buying the Sony? :D...sorry, couldn't resist ;):)

I would say, "you get what you pay for", but as you've discovered, with the Sony box being about £20 more, it's still not perfect

18 months, where you get that one from? It was released three years ago in October.

I'm guessing you have a regular (4:3) TV? If the BBCi 'Press Red' icon is chopped off at the top of the screen, it'll be the overscan on your TV causing the problem. Yes, when you quit out of BBC News Multiscreen, the box goes to News 24. Nothing is wrong with the box.

I bought my Sony VTX-D800U 14 months ago, and never really had any problems, however, BBCi and Teletext tends to be really slow at times and can even freeze, no problem though, as simply just pressing the channel up or down gets out of it. Also, the off-air MHEG poping-up over the picture is definately an issue, and would be nice if Sony could send out an update to sort these couple of niggles out, as there have been no updates for this box since May last year (around the time I got my unit).

I have mine connected up to a Philips 21" CRT, and the only thing that sucks about this box is the picture is locked to 14:9 on BBC and ITV channels. I'd much prefer to have 4:3 letterbox to give full widescreen like on the rest of the channels.
