X-Men 3 has been put back; it seems that the director of the first two movies (and the excellent film 'The Usual Suspects') Bryan Singer has turned down the third one and is turning his attentions to do the new Superman movie instead!
That said, pre-production is meant to have started on the movie, so I wouldn't be suprised if it was still on course for an early summer 2006 release.
Jean Grey will be though - anyone who has read the particular comic books that the movies are milking for plot will know that she is an essential part of the overall story arc...
If they are planning on releasing X Men 3 in 2006 then they had better sort out a director soon. The rumour about Joss Whedon being set to write and direct "X-Men 3" in Summer 2005 is still going around. Joss Whedon did say this about the rumours before: "Nobody has approached me about the X-Men franchise. Would I like to make an X-Men movie? That'd be bitchin'. And I really think that, you know, I actually really like those actors, and I really like those characters, and I think there's a lot that could be done with it, and I think it would be a romp. But I'm not setting my sights on that".
I just hope they sort it out sooner rather than later as I have been waiting for this film since I finished watching X2!
Yep... there were more rumors on buffy.nu (which seems to be down at the mo, so I can't post a link) over the weekend about Joss writing and directing X-Men 3. As i've mentioned before, personal opinion, but I think he'd be a good choice.
Jean Grey will be though - anyone who has read the particular comic books that the movies are milking for plot will know that she is an essential part of the overall story arc...
I think the final shot over the water/lake in X-men 2 was a fairly big give away
Make sure to see it!! Even as a girl who was never into comic books (well ok, I was into Bunty and Mandy but not proper comic books), I really enjoyed both X-Men films. Was a bit confused during the second one but watched it again and I was fine.
Berry won't be staring it the 3rd tho as she wanted more screen time and they said nope and she will be replaced.
Ah yes... the classic quote:
"After playing Storm in 'X-Men' and now Catwoman, I think my comic book hero days are probably over."
"That's unless I was lucky enough to play Catwoman again. I would love to do that. But other than that, I think I've pretty much done it."
Sooo... you wouldn't reprise a role in a well received, well adapted, respected comic book movie series... but you would reprise a role in a terrible, badly received, awful movie based on the bastardisation of a classic comicbook character?...
Can i get some of what shes smokin?
Next film, I think she'll need a 2nd trailer to carry her ego...
I saw on Guillermo del Toro (Director Of Hellboy and Blade 2) webchat on the empire website that he was asked if he was interested in directing X Men 3 and this was his answer: "I hear that Joss Whedon is doing it and as a fan I think that's perfect. I think that the character I love the most in the X-Men mythology is Beast, so it's too close to Hellboy for comfort"
So the rumours about Joss Whedon doing X Men 3 are still going around but all I want to hear is some offical confirmation so that we know that we will see a new X Men film in the near future!
I've seen both of the x-men movies. I think I like the second one better. I hope that they will come out with a third one. It will probably be good, too.
Its looks like there will definatly be a X Men 3 film as Patrick Stewart has said recently that that X-Men 3 will go into production next June 2005 in Vancouver, however nobody knows which cast members will return since there is no script and director.
Joss Whedon is still rumoured as the director of X Men 3 however nothing has been confirmed. They do need to announce who the director is before the end of the year if they are starting production next year!

Pre Production is often a long and uncertain process - I wouldn't be suprised if 'X-Men 3' develops a touch of 'development hell' along the way
Yeah I am not getting my hopes up for X Men 3 soon but I would like to see it on the big screen in the next few years.
X-Men producer Lauren Shuler Donner has said recently that she is looking forward to continuing with the X-Men franchise and that X-3 will continue with the Dark Phoenix saga. After X-3 there may be a Wolverine movie.
It does look like they will continue with the Dark Phoenix saga if X Men 3 does happen which will please the comic book fans as this is what we want to see!
Yeah that was the original plan by Bryan Singer before he jumped ship to Superman. Since he left lots of his idea for X Men 3 have come out including that Sigourney Weaver would have played Emma Frost in X-Men 3 if Bryan Singer had still been directing it!
The Hollywood Reporter says that 20th Century Fox and Marvel Studios are moving forward with X-Men 3, hiring screenwriter Simon Kinberg to write the script!
For the studio, he previously wrote "Mr. and Mrs. Smith," starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, did a rewrite on Jennifer Garner's Elektra, and also a rewrite for director Tim Story's Fantastic Four.
Kinberg told the trade that the storyline is still being hammered out.
"I'm a religious reader of the ('X-Men') comics, and I loved the first two movies," Kinberg said. "I had a great experience with Fox and Marvel on the other projects, and when they came to me and asked me if I had any interest in 'X3,' I was ecstatic. I grew up on them, and I love these comics, and it's exciting to take a whack at making the third the biggest and best in the trilogy; it's our 'Return of the King."'
The film's producers are eyeing a summer start and are starting to meet with directors to replace Bryan Singer, who helmed the first two "X-Men" movies. Deals have yet to be worked out for the actors to return, but they are all expected to reprise their roles.
Damm you beat me to it as I have just read that as well!
At least they are starting with a script and it seems that all the rumours about Joss Whedon are untrue but he might still be on the list of directors. We might get to see X Men 3 in 2006!
Appartently Fox are still aiming for a May 2006 release as they want X Men 3 to start production next summer. So with Fantastic Four, Electra and Batman next year and hopefully X men and Ghost Rider in 2006 and maybe Spiderman 3 and Hellboy 2 in the future. It looks like we will be enjoying comic book films every year for a long while!
It will be strange if they can't get back the original actors back.... I heard Halle didn't want to do Storm again.... no idea judging by how crap Gothika was.

Yeh... She's said she's probably done with comic book movies... Unless they make a Catwoman 2!? (god, I hope not!) Any respect I might have had for her went totally out of the window after that remark... She probably would do X3 if it was totally written around Storm... Ego much?
I say, stuff Halle, and give Jada Pinkett Smith a call. Think she'd make an great Storm.

Gene Grey WON'T be in Xmen 3 - FACT!

Not for people who don;t know the comic books. i never noticed it until recently and never understod it til I listened to the commentary.
Maybe people will think its the return of Nessy II or something...
Later~
