Has anybody used this type of service and if so does it work well i.e. are titles usually in stock. I am thinking of using Lovefilm.com. They charge £14.99 for unlimited rentals with up to 3 at anyone time. They also seem to have a large selection of films to choose from.
Is this a good deal?

Refer someone who goes on to be a member get another month free and a free DVD.
Good turnaround - one day back to them, DVD sent out that day, gets to you the following day.
And a superb selection including TV boxsets.
They were Goodbye Lennin, Riding in Cars With Boys and Whale Rider.
I like a mixture!
Riding in Cars with Boys is OK not seen the other 2.
I really liked Chulpan Khamatova who looked amazing on screen. Her character provided someone with a clear head during the charade.
beats renting from high street stores..at least you can keep them out for as long as you like:D
Ditto - thought I'd be unimpressed, but ended up warming to it.
I switched from Screen Select to Amazon this week, as Screen Select's customer service did not assist me enough in my opinion;
1] They never replied to my emails telling them my rental list was out of date [four emails i sent altogether]
2]Consequently, they sent me yet another DVD making it four instead of three, and marking one i had just received as being returned!
Just petty annoyances but I switched allegiance to Amazon as having been a buying customer of theirs for a couple of years, I felt they would be fairly reliable in renting. I joined on the 12th and got my first 3 DVDS the next day
The main difference with Amazon is that they have a restriction on how many you can have a month ie four or six DVD's which they send in pairs for the four disc deal or as a trio for the six disc deal. This suits me perfectly but might not be everyone's cup of tea...
Their prices are good £7.99 for four discs and £9.99 for six, though they don't offer a free trial
i'm happy enough though, have got 'soldier soldier' out as one of my choices to watch tonight :D
I did post earlier on here to say there are no major problems with Screen select which is true enough, each to their own in my opinion, but since they merged with video island,, their customer service isnt as good
I hope theyre not going to be a victim of their own success. Also on videoisland you had the option to mark the boxes of the films you'd returned, screenselect dont have this option, which is a shame and is why my rental list is probably out of date as its up to the company or whoever runs the website to update it
good luck with your choices, i just like amazon personally and have always got on well with them [so far!!]:)
www.dvdtrials.co.uk
which lists all known current free trial offers, including at the moment a 44 day free LoveFilm trial.
LoveFilm have dispatched all requests promptly, although the reply envelopes always seem to need sellotaping up!
Do you think I should just keep emailing them every day? I can't see what the problem is, unless they have a huge back log.
It's really frustrating, I may have to take my custom elsewhere.
Oh, you don't seem to be able to call them on their 0800 number anymore... very strange.
I switched to Lovefilm and I think it's great. I have had a load of films so far. I subscribed to the 1 DVD at a time service which is the cheapest. One at a time is plenty for me. I barely have time to watch the one I have never mind 3 at any one time. It costs just £9.99 a month.
I think it's hreat because I have watched films that I would never normally watch. If you don't like it you just send it back. At least you haven't wasted £12.99 a throw.
I think I have about 90 films in my queue. That will keep me going for a while.
But I am impressed as 3 DVD have already been dispatched and they were my priority choices.
The three I getting are:
Lost In Translation
Sex Lives Of The Potato Men
Spider-Man 2
One thing that I don't like is that the date on the dispatch and delivery estimate is in the format yyyy-mm-dd and that I have the delivery estimate for Sunday. (but I think I'm been petty)
I chose Amazon as they were one of the best valued services and had the largest range of titles (I compared with other rental services by searching for a variety of titles and Amazon was the ony one to have them all).
The service has been excellent. I don't have to pay for postage to return the discs, as I noticed you have to with the new MSN DVD service (It's not the cost for me but the pfaff of having to buy stamps all the time). I get emails to tell me when they receive DVDs back and when they have despatched new ones.
So, Amazon is my recommendation for service and value.
Unfortunately, they were the first I tried, and I have subsequently paid for DVD rentals from other online companies so I'm not just a freeloader; so my decision to cancel Lovefilm because they sent a film I'd put lower down my queue was probably a mistake. With hindsight, the queue system only works if you don't mind, for example, a romcom turning up on a day when you really want to watch a martial arts movie (which is exactly what happened to me).
I'd really like to try them again. Since there have been a lot of changes, mergers and takeovers in the past year I think they should waive the "only one trial" rule for a limited period so people who tried the service and found it didn't work for them can have a second bite.
Any chance you could explain what you mean here? I'm with screenselect and when they send me a dvd it drops from my list, so how is yours 'out of date' me no understandy.
