When questioned on why she and Ecclestone had both decided to move on from Dr. Who when they were clearly making the roles their own, and shedding off her precocious teeny-pop image, she replied, "Because we want to; because we want to".

Not bad.. not bad at all!
So, apparently she isn't leaving, just having a break mis-season then returning - this is Heats latest theory anyway!
Thought the News of the Screws was reporting that she'd been convinced to stay on for the whole of series 2?
I thought that it was expected that she ws going to stay for the first 3 episodes of series 2. Then the NOTW reported that she would be on for another 4, as said above. That will make a total of 7 epsiodes in series 2 she is in.
But don't feel too sad about it people...think of how much we have seen of her so far...10 episodes. With the Christmas special, the 3 episodes left this series and the probability of 7 next series, we have yet to see half of the episodes Billie will be in
I know what you mean...i've never seen her act well, but then again i was weary of Billie Piper when i heard she was cast. I have faith in the director. If she is cast she must be ok at least.
Yep she has been great in the series, but hopefully if paper talk is true then Jen Ellison is the replacement
Doen't really fit with the news that they're looking for a more mature, classy brunette does it (I'll put my claws away). I really don't want Jennifer Ellison, although men might be keener. Couldn't stand her in Brookie.....
I'll try to find a link to where I got that info.
no, not Kate Ford
The irony is that Billie is excellent in the role mainly because most people didn't really think she was an actress (she was excellent in one of the Canterbury Tales) and are impressed with her part in Dr Who.
They'd be much better off getting a similar new actress for the part.
I really really really really really really really really really really hope that Jennifer Ellison is not the replacement for Billie...my greatest hope is that it is that girl who layed Nancy in the previous two epidoes...she was great and her and the doctor (wich ever incarnation) would be a great team...Nancy knows how to look after herself, she has a strong head and is very accepting...she would make a great assistant/companion, and I was extremely impressed with the actress.
I'd love to see Billie stay for the whole of the next series, much as I would have loved to see CE stay. However, if she isn't going to do so, my personal pick would be Nina Sosanya - she was the castrato-who-wasn't, Bellino, in Casanova. She's definitely a very classy brunette, if that really is the criteria they're searching for, and she had excellent chemistry with DT. She has a very good CV, but isn't so well-known that there would be a load of assumed baggage following her into the Tardis.
As to Jennifer Ellison - she actually wasn't bad at all in the Phantom, and can speak RP, as she did there, if her native Scouse accent was seen to be too strong for export across the Atlantic. But there is a lot of baggage, and she does seem to have a lot of detractors.
Michelle Ryan - I think it would be hard for people to accept her as not being Zoe Slater if she went straight into DW, unless by the time her character appeared she'd had time to get a few different credits on her CV in between.
Kate Ford - I think she's extended her Corrie contract, hasn't she? And again, same problem as above. It is terribly hard to forge a different path after being prominent in a soap. The actors really need to prove themselves as having a wide range, playing very different characters, before people will really accept them as not being their soap character in a different set of clothes.
I agree that Nina Sosanya would be really good and could play a very different type of companion (remember her in Teachers). RTD does tend to cast a lot of people he's worked with before too.
Then again, a complete unknown might be fun.

Yes, the BBC didn't want her to but she was defiant
I think it's been confirmed that she's doing an "extra" four, making a total of seven.
K
Not fabulous, good actress maybe. Pretty, no attractive yes, but not the teeth.

(And I sincerely hope it goes on for much more than two series.)

let's hope it's more
