Which is more than Barry can hear I suppose.
Barry, don't think anyone has taken a second out to thank you for your stirling efforts as Consumer No.1, so from all of us - Thanks. You're doing a grand job.

I think we are all extremely lucky that the second Humax to land fell onto Barry's mat. I know that I for one would certainly not have devoted the patience and thoroughness to answering all our queries that he has.
Indeed - a grand job.
Congratulations Barry, I don't honestly know how you're managing to test the Humax and answer everyones questions at the same time. I bet you haven't had time for a cup of tea or anything!! Well done!!!
Humax are helping me out with the file I downloaded off the PVR.
I can see my recordings through the software that are on the PVR and like an FTP program you can transfer these files from PVR to any folder on your machine.
The file name on the PVR hard disk of your recording is in the format 20051020 1416 i7Doctors. As you can tell my test recording was doctors on BBC1.
The file transfers to the PC with this same file name but no extention. And the PC does not understand what type of file this is. Its asks you to choose a program from a list of apps. None of the following worked when trying to play (open the file) in a media player - Windows Media player, Apply Quick Time player, RealOne player, WinDVD.
I tried manually putting in soe extentions to the file name to no avail. Talking to the nice guys at Humax (very friendly by the way) the guy(s) who deal with the software side are currently out of the office, but in the mean time figured he could initially help by checking if there are any special codecs that need to be downloaded.
It is supposed to be an straight mpeg2 file and the humax support person saw first hand downloaded material. Awaiting to Humax to advise what if any are the codecs. I suggest if it is a codec issue it should be available on their website perhaps?
I wont need a DVD recorder if I find a recording I want to stick on DVD from the PVR, as once it is downloaded and can use my laptops DVD writer to burn a disk if need be, or convert files so I can watch recordings on my PSP while commuting.
Have you tried playing the video files in a software DVD player? It could be that the Humax software hasn’t been configured correctly for audio and it might work in a DVD player or a media player. I would suggest playing a DVD disc on your PC, as a trouble shooting step, in case the audio issue is not with the Humax file/software but is a PC configuration issue.
USB2 yes. File extensions, I have not investigated yet, as for your other question re watching a 3rd channel, I do not understand.
When recording two channels, say BBC1 on tuner1 from mux A & ITV2 on tuner2 from mux B (or whatever the muxs are called) and you want to watch a 3rd live channel, do you get to choose which mux (A or you can select a channel from?
Got a phone call from comet this morning about an early delivery, so i could pick it up at 12.00 which i did . just come back from comet's after having to return it, it was dead. dead as a door nail. so back to waiting for the next delivery which is on monday. Well done Barry your the man!!
I have started recording BBC1 and then changed to BBC2 and started recording that. So I have two channels being recorded at the same time. I can now go to ITV, Channel 4 and FIVE no problem. I was supprised because I thought if you were recording two channels at the same time you should only be able to watch a third channel from one of the same Muxes. I dont think ITV, Chan4 or FIVE were on the same muxes as BBC1 or 2. Intersting.
Perhaps that's because you're recording BBC1 and 2 which are both on Mux 1?
Yeah I think so. I dont think that was ever mentioned before though so I was supprised. Both recodings have been stopped now and they are working fine as well.

Marc BBC 1 and 2 are on the same mux, that is why you can view any other channel.

No you cant seem to choose that. All you can do is channel up or down with the remote control (chan+ / chan- buttons). You can also press the channel number in directly on the number pad, and unless you know your muxes already, you will see if it is available.
or press the list button on the remote for the list of all channels ordered numerically, and the ones you can't use are greyed out. Press OK on the one you want to watch. I think they have done a good implementation of this capability.
If you try to hope to a channel that cant be viewed because you are already recording two (on different muxes) the message on screen is: This channel is restricted by recording.
EDIT: I had left the channel/screen on this message above, and while I was typing on my machine the channel cam eot life on its own. BBC1 had finished its recording that why. That reminds me, I need to stop ITV recording.
Why would the production of a photo or two after other people have published their initial findings prove anything at all? You're a very strange person.
I would say transfer time is about 3 minutes per 5 minutes of recording (so far as I can see). I have USB2 ports on my machine
Were you recording anything whilst you were transferring?
You’re data-rate is ~6.8 Mbps whilst Barry’s is ~7.8. Close enough given the circumstances. It would make sense to have a special transfer mode, which disables the automatic caching of live TV, so that all CPU and system bandwidth can be assigned for the file transfer. You can tell I used to write computer software!

I’m still not clear, does this mean that you can view any station from either of the 2 muxes that are being recorded from? How does this compare with the Toppy?
I'm beginning to get doubts and might cancel my DABs order and order from Comet instead so I can return it easily and buy a Toppy if needed.

Edit ooops some one beat me to it, however you might find this list useful DTT channel/mux allocations

Its abit late now they have started to become available
Do you think it will look any better??? Cheap & nasty in or out of focus
