I'd like to think that I was quite "well up" with quiz progs etc
I watch Countdown and HAVE got the Countdown Conundrum, a nine letter word AND the number game all in the same episode
I love to test my brain watching WWTBAM
and I have answered General Knowledge quezzies in Mastermind
but I just don't get Deal or No Deal..........
I know it's all about probabilities and guesswork etc, but it's not exactly brain exercising is it?
or is it just me
I just think it's a bunch of greedy people ............
don't like it and don't find it remotely interesting or exciting....

You will find i and many others agree with you.
sorry, I didn't know that a thread already existed
just happened to watch this programme tonight for only the second time.........and then I had to slap myself stupid to remind me THAT IT WAS RUBBISH!!!
just a tad OTT, nearly believed you
I couldn't watch it everyday, but it's entertaining enough for when I do.
It's entertainment.
It's WWTBAM but with computer random answers to each question.
It's purely "Take the Money or Bail out" but when
Today the girl took £22k, with £250k a possability, 1 in 8 chance
5 boxes 20k or less, 3 above
I'd have taken a solid £22k as well.
Then they play on, to see if she chose right.
box, box, box - banker steps in deal would have been £47k
think it was then 1 in 5 that it could be £250k
Surely everybody would take the £47k at this point
box, box, box now only £1 and £250k left.
Deal offered was £110k - at this point nobody would skip the Deal
And in her box was £250k - something that nobody would have got,
But it's entertainment, oddly not because I'd hope she'd miss out or go on and get nothing.
I think most viewers would wish to have the gambler's nerve to go on and on, but we like to see a person - being real rather than greedy.
Wow! I really wish I'd seen that. I did wonder if the £1 v £250k would ever present itself. Annoyed I missed it
no, she took the 22k
somebody with more nerves and a lota bottle might have said No deal, but would Deal when offered £47k etc.
And surely no one would pass on £110k ?
The only scenario that can work is to effectively open the lower boxes leaving the top 5 or 8 boxes - 250,100,75,50 ...
The Banker will then have to offer the mean - about 50
and so on increasing each time as the lower ones go
so if you are down to 2 boxes 100 and 250 and the banker offers £175, again why risk only getting £100
yes you kick yourself at this point when the box has 250
but wouldn't you hate to open it and only get 100 - 75 gone just like that.
I can't see a scenario where a reasonable person can win the £250k
I liked it, and I also think Noel is great on it too.
it's more complicated that people realise
I've got strangely addicted to some of the people (they always cut to that smiley Lyndsey girl)
Funny you should say that... Lyndsey was up tonight.
She ended up with around £15,000 if I remember rightly, or something like that. (She accepted the banker's offer)
Had she have hung on however and played on, the next deal was £50,000.
Only £10,000 was in her box though.
If 250 grand is one of the last two amounts left, then the person is almost certainly going to accept the deal.
The only way I envisage someone winning the 250 grand is if the following apply;
They have 250 grand in their box
The last two values are 250 grand and 100 grand
They are very brave OR very rich
that's what i thought - 75,000/100,000 against 250,000.
the banker would offer something amazing, but they would still end up with a good prize so it'd be worth gambling it.
unless, the banker offered like 200,000
(it seems like the avergae win is around 20K. would hate to be the person that ends up with all low blue numbers)
