freeview means free to view on an otherwise encrypted (subscription) channel. You will probably need a sky card to watch it , so in a way thanking sky is correct although they dont control NASN.
The reason why he thought it was to do with Sky, is because he said he used to have NTL. He must have thought that Sky operate the same way as NTL.
On the NTL Digital cable network, NTL control everything - encryption, compression, channel broadcast times etc... Where as on Sky, everything is controlled by the broadcaster, IE. if the broadcaster wishes to switch off the encryption on their channel for the weekend and go FTA/FTV, then that's up to them to do that, and not Sky - Sky have no control over that.
I used to have NTL Digital myself - absolute crap!
I already mentioned that a Sky Card may be needed, to view it next weekend. If you have a card then you'll get it free all weekend including Live Canadia Hockey Night.
Freeview is the name of a *terrestrial* digital transmission service.
It has *nothing* to do with satellite television whatsoever.
If that is the case you *idiot* (I only use that word freely because you seem to), how come filmfour have FREEVIEW weekends on Sky?
Freeview was used to refer to free-to-view weekends for subscription channels on satellite and ON/ITV Digital before the DTT Freeview service came along.
"freeview" used to mean 'free preview' in the days before Freeview came about. They took the name, capitalised the first letter and trademarked it. Bit like teletext and Teletext.
It's still misleading when they say something is a free preview weekend and then you either need a £20 Freesat card or you must be a Sky subscriber to one of their packages to get the free weekend.
This happened recently with Film Four.

NASN kept themselves covered and clearly mentioned that a Sky Subscription was needed.

What does this have to do with Sky?
What does Freeview have to do with it?
Do you mean Free-to-air or Free-to-view?

<end of rant>
I have to wonder if this is a coincedence....after all, they didn't even go Freeview for the July 5th weekend this year, as has been traditional....
Well, they let off a lot of fireworks, so I just thought "5th"
Nah, seriously though,...just an innocent typo....(though are they typos if they're numbers? Num-bo's? )
There's simply no need for that particular tone just because someone makes a slightly incorrect statement
