World Cup 2006: The best divers, feigning injury, actors and cheaters

This thread is for all those players who end up looking very stupid by:
  • Diving (go down like a ton of bricks in the penalty area when they haven't even been touched. This category also includes diving followed up with multiple rolls)
  • Feigning injury (they are suddenly able to walk again when they don't get the decision they'd hoped for)
  • Actoring (clutching their faces so as to make it look they got elbowed, etc)
  • Cheating (any or all of the above really)

Despite FIFA warning players about cheating and the many, many cameras around all of the stadiums, you just know some very players are going to try it on.

Use this thread to name and shame all those diving, cheating players. Give your marks (out of 6, or 10 if you prefer) for the best dive, bit of acting, etc. you see. ;)

The villain of World Cup 2002 was Brazilian player Rivaldo. He fooled the referee by clutching his face after Turkish player Unsal kicked the ball at his leg while he was waiting to take a corner. He fell to the ground in a heap and got the Turk sent off.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport3/worldcup2002/hi/matches_wallchart/brazil_v_turkey/newsid_2023000/2023985.stm

Should our players play act too or is it best left to the foreign teams?

No. There was talk of a comeback at some stage, but he's done.

Anyone seen any divers and/or actors yet?

Sweden's Ibrahimovic elbowed a Trinidad & Tobago player in the face! (I think it was Edwards).

I saw a little bit of faking and acting by Michael Ballack in the Germany vs Poland game.

Players mentioned so far in this thread: Didier Drogba, Joe Cole, Arjen Robben and now Michael Ballack. Which club team do (or will) they all play for next season...? ;):p

    Cristiano Ronaldo!

Sir Alex's words seem to have washed over Ronaldo's head somewhat! :p

Robben dived in the penalty box during the game against the Ivory Coast and got a yellow card. :D

    Yes! ITV showed it.

When Peter Crouch jumped to head the ball for England's first goal, he yanked the dreadlocks of the Trindad & Tobago player who was jumping up with him! Naughty!

Italy's Daniele De Rossi's elbowing of USA's Brian McBride in the face was quite appalling. The Italian was rightfully sent off. There was a bit of acting by the Italians in the game too.

The Ukraine vs Tunisa game had a few dives in it. For the Ukraine there was Tymoschuk and then Shevchenko who seemed to fall over his own feet. For Tunsia, Jaziri got one of his two yellow cards for diving.

There were two dives by Thierry Henry in the France vs South Korea game a few days ago.

Quite ironic that, certinally from someone who believes that he himself doesn't dive as he isn't a 'woman'

    Portugal 1 - 0 Holland

What can I say? It looks like both teams looked at the title of this thread and said, "We're gonna do all of that!". 16 yellow cards, of which 4 were second yellows resulting in the red card being shown and the player(s) having to leave the field.

Best diver: Robben. There were many others guilty though.

Best cheater: Figo. He lightly headbutted Dutch player Van Bommel behind the back of the referee. Van Bommel took a few seconds to feel the impact and fall to the fall ground 'in pain'.

This was perhaps the one of the worst World Cup games for diving, cheating and acting. I did wonder a few times if I was watching the World Cup, an Olympic Diving competition or the Oscars! :D

The Holland v Portugal match was quite something and a cross between an international diving competition and a dramatic acting workshop. Disaster from start to finish and the ref had his back turned to most of the action.
Good for England though, because Portugal don't seem to have many players left!! Some of the players' diving routines were becoming quite comical by the end of it.

Ecuador also seemed to spend a lot of time writhing and agonising on the floor for no apparent reason either.

during the France v South Korea game Viera who is over 6 foot tall and quite a powerfull well built bloke went over then sat up waited about 1 minute then pretended to be injured

he did the same thing during France's last game when henry scored.. he pretended to be injured but as henry scored he got up.. he also got violently hurt when a hand went near his face

last night in the Figo Van Bommel head butt thing there was no way at all that Figo could have hurt him or made him fall over

Figo did the same thing when he got that bloke sent off

all the players will do it but at least FIFA have stopped them doing it whilst wearing jewelery which i'm sure is something all the fans are glad about

Yes. I think Ecuador's Carlos Tenorio did multiple rolls on the ground when he got injured.

I nearly forgot to mention England goalkeeper Paul Robinson. He got 'injured' late in the game and the England players used the delay to the game to drink water. Clever tactics! ;)
